I had a conversation with a woman today who referred to all artists as "starving artists", and I replied by trying to break her stereotype. First of all, no one is starving because there is God who feeds even the birds and there is the government who hands out food stamps. So there should be no excuse for anyone to be starving. Do I even have to mention or bring up churches with food banks? I don't like stereotypes. I told her: "Not all artists are struggling and poor." I brought up a couple examples just off the top of my head who are Vladimir Kush and Akiane. Vladimir Kush is a Russian surrealistic contemporary oil painter who I actually discovered while working in an art gallery because we sold his work. His giclee's (copies) sell for thousands and he also has books, calendars etc. This guy is a world traveler for his painting career and has luxurious life experiences and things in his life. He is by no means a "starving artist" - but he is an artist. Akiane is considered a prodigy because she was painting at a master's level before she graduated middle school. She works from home painting visions God gives her and she is very very rich. This girl has been on Oprah and is also a world traveler. I told her my dream is to have a career as an artist like one of these people in which I can just travel the world painting and money not being an issue at all.
Someone asked me, "How do you heal people's lives with art?"
My reply: "The way I explain it is that (1) creating art is getting your subconscious out in front of you to face for self-awareness/healing... likened to journaling but with pictures instead of words, (2) promotes a sense of pride/self-esteem, (3) visualization for manifestation." It is catharthic - and it's fun! Likened to meditation, while you are in creation mode you are of no-mind. Feel free to ask more questions in the comments. I have experience modeling for a life drawing class with clothes on and I am interested to get more experience as a clothed model for art classes.
I have studied art and psychology formally in college for the past 14 years with the intention of helping others heal. I believe it is my life purpose to help people heal through art. I have been certified as an Art Therapy Life Coach that you can see here and I hold an Associate of Arts degree from Bakersfield College. I'm very kind and loving and am a good gentle teacher. I can provide materials such as oil pastel, chalk pastel, charcoal, markers, colored pencil, acrylic paint, and watercolor. Of course there will be a phone consultation before setting up an appointment. My specialty is visualization for manifestation, as well as overcoming limiting beliefs. I help people to get to know themselves and to love themselves. So if you don't know what's holding you back or feel lack of motivation or courage, or if there's something you wish for to come true, give me a call at (661) 302-0444 and together we will make a positive change in your life! Thank you for your consideration. I charge $100 for a 2-hour session and I work with all ages.
"The Kiss" by Constantin Brancusi (August 1907). It is a very early example of proto-cubist of non-literal representation.
