I had a conversation with a woman today who referred to all artists as "starving artists", and I replied by trying to break her stereotype. First of all, no one is starving because there is God who feeds even the birds and there is the government who hands out food stamps. So there should be no excuse for anyone to be starving. Do I even have to mention or bring up churches with food banks? I don't like stereotypes. I told her: "Not all artists are struggling and poor." I brought up a couple examples just off the top of my head who are Vladimir Kush and Akiane. Vladimir Kush is a Russian surrealistic contemporary oil painter who I actually discovered while working in an art gallery because we sold his work. His giclee's (copies) sell for thousands and he also has books, calendars etc. This guy is a world traveler for his painting career and has luxurious life experiences and things in his life. He is by no means a "starving artist" - but he is an artist. Akiane is considered a prodigy because she was painting at a master's level before she graduated middle school. She works from home painting visions God gives her and she is very very rich. This girl has been on Oprah and is also a world traveler. I told her my dream is to have a career as an artist like one of these people in which I can just travel the world painting and money not being an issue at all.
